For our first Literacy session I will be reading you one of my favourite books, The Little Hummingbird by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, who is an Indigenous Haida artist and writer. 

Wacky Wednesday, an amazing book my dad used to read to us when we were small. 

This is a book called "The Best Part of Me," and it includes writing from students in grade 3, 4 and 5 (along with photos) put together by Wendy Ewald. What is the best part of you? Your brain? Your mouth? Your arms?

Today's read aloud is Red is a Dragon by Roseanne Thong with illustrations by Grace Lin. Click here to watch the video in higher resolution. This book is an exciting exploration of different cultures, specifically Chinese culture, and examines the beautiful colours found within.

Today we read "Tell Me One Good Thing," a poem by Richard Thompson with art by Eugenie Fernandes. This is a particularly special piece of literature for me because my mother used to read it to me every night when I was a child. Remember to pause the video to answer the questions! Inspired by Polo's Show & Tell this morning, where they shared their favourite fish, I decided to read two Dennis Lee poems: "The Fishes of Kempenfelt Bay" and "Muffin and Puffin and Murphy and Me."
